The Story…
Both Ken Andrews and Rodger Shields were figureheads at the Yorkshire Playhouse. In their lifetimes they each made significant contributions to not only the Playhouse, but the community at large.
Rodger was a voracious artist, in multiple mediums, and he had a dream to see the hallway in the Playhouse lobby turned into a gallery featuring local artists. When we began receiving donations in memory of him, it only made sense to start making that dream a reality.
Ken’s skill as a painter, ink artist, and woodworker—among other mediums—was something everyone knew and loved about him. Viewing his work is an absolute treat. Donations were made in his memory as well, and it followed that we could truly make this gallery a reality by combining the money given in each of these great men’s names.
So we did. The ribbon cutting for the gallery occurred at our Annual Board of Directors Meeting on May 21st, 2019. Each show cycle we will feature a new set of local artists. Their work can be viewed anytime during box office hours, as well as at intermission during productions.
