Announcing Auditions for

The Yorkshire Playhouse Children’s Theatre

2026 Production of

A Grimm Adventure

Written and Directed by John I Baker, III

Based on characters from the classic fairy tales by The Brothers Grimm.

I would like to invite your child to audition for the summer 2026 Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre production of A Grimm Adventure.

In this fanciful and charming reframing of the Grimm’s fairy tales, the Queen finds herself in a bind when an imp, Rumpelstiltskin, demands her first born child as payment for a previous agreement.  Rumpelstiltskin gives the Queen an out – all she has to do is provide his name.  The King sends out a proclamation across the kingdom, that whoever can provide the imps name will be rewarded richly.  A down and out storyteller, her sidekick, and an annoying talking frog, set out on an adventure to provide the King with a possible name.  Along the way the travelers come across many famous fairy tale characters, discovering their stories in the process.  Red Cap makes an appearance, as does Hansel and Gretel, the Pied Piper of Hamlin, Snow-White, and several other famous characters join in adding fun and laughter to this comical production where there is a new twist around every corner.

Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre is for children who have completed first grade to those who have completed their junior year in high-school. The aim of the Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre is to teach children about theatre, performance skills, and to provide the young actors of York County an enjoyable artistic experience. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, May 25 and run through the month of June, beginning each weekday morning at 9:00 a.m. and going until 12:00 p.m. The performances are schedule for June 18, 19, and 20 at 7:00 p.m., and June 21 at 2:00 p.m.

There are roughly 40-50 parts in A Grimm Adventure. Auditions will be held at the Yorkshire Playhouse on Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8 from 3:30-6:00 & on Saturday, May 9 from 10am-12pm. Please arrive 15-minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out an audition form. Please know your actor’s schedule for the show’s rehearsal time ahead of auditions so all conflicts can be noted on the audition form..

We’re collecting all the information the director would normally collect on an audition form. Please know your conflicts before you begin the form. It’s better to list something you find out later will not interfere, than to have left it out. Thanks!!

Unfortunately, not all children who audition can be selected for the production.  Please prepare your children for the possibility of not making the production after auditioning. Those who make the production are expected to be at all rehearsals, and ready to work on the show.  Theatre is team art.  Every cast member is important, and without complete cast commitment, the final production suffers.

Each participant in The Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre must pay a joining fee to be in the production.  The fee includes the production script, production T-shirt and two tickets for the production.  Fees are only paid by those who are cast in the production.  Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the fees.

I hope to see you at the auditions.

 Sincerely,

 John I. Baker III

Director
