2022 YPPC Winners

As we’re nearing the end of our 49th Season, we have one more exciting announcement: the 2022 Yorkshire Playhouse Playwriting Competition winners have been chosen!

Our winner is Ghost! Written by Lily Houston and Raima Kriefels, this dramatic script is set in the 1970s and follows five female ghostwriters. These women are invited to a mansion on a secluded island in Maine, where they are forced to write the ‘autobiography’ of Julius Henker. Lily and Raima both attend York High School and are involved in choir, speech, and other extracurriculars.

The runner-up is Ridiculous, a one-act drama with two possible endings. Jennifer Lentfer, a returning Nebraskan, has written a lengthy repertoire of poetry. In her debut playscript, a group of friends attends a party, but one member is distracted by persistent text messages from an old ‘friend.’ These heated messages, which are hidden from the other characters, are displayed for the audience to see.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a script for the Playwriting Competition, and congratulations to the winners!

The Yorkshire Playhouse Playwriting Contest was created in 2018 to support and encourage Nebraska writers by providing an opportunity to submit their works to be reviewed. The winners are selected by a panel through a blind judging process. The winner and runner-up receive a cash prize.
